About Mount Olive Lutheran Church
Mount Olive has been a congregation of Lutheran Church-Canada in Regina for over seventy years, holding to biblical teaching, the Lutheran Confessions, and the sacramental life of the church.
Our History
Mount Olive Lutheran Church was first organized as St. John's Lutheran Mission. On March 9, 1953, the congregation was formally established, and a new building was dedicated in December 1961. In the spring of 1989, work began on a 10,000 square foot addition — built almost entirely by congregation volunteers — and dedicated to the glory of God on January 14, 1990. That building is where we gather today, at 2015 4th Avenue North in north Regina.
What We Believe
We are a member congregation of Lutheran Church-Canada and part of the International Lutheran Council, a worldwide fellowship of confessional Lutheran churches. We hold to the inerrancy of Scripture and affirm the Lutheran Confessions — including the Augsburg Confession, Luther's Catechisms, and the other documents of the Book of Concord — as a faithful and right exposition of what the Bible teaches.
In short: we believe that every person stands before God as a sinner in need of a Saviour, and that Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, is that Saviour. That is what we preach. That is what we teach. That is the heart of everything we do here.
Worship
We hold two services every Sunday morning: 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Both follow the same order of service. Services include readings from the Bible, a sermon based on one of those readings, Christian hymns, prayers, and frequently a sung responsive liturgy from The Lutheran Service Book. Coffee and fellowship are available between services in the hall.
Throughout the church year we observe the full liturgical calendar — Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, and the seasons of the Christian year. Special services are held on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Palm Sunday, Reformation Sunday, and Thanksgiving Sunday.
Our Pastor
Pastor Ted A. Giese holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Master of Theological Studies, and a Master of Divinity. He has served Mount Olive for many years and is the primary preacher and teacher of the congregation. His sermons are published weekly on our website, Facebook page, and YouTube channel for those who cannot attend in person.
Our Mission
We exist to proclaim the Gospel and equip God's people. That means preaching Christ crucified and risen every Sunday, providing the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper, teaching the faith through God's Word, and reaching out to our community and the world with the message of forgiveness and new life in Jesus Christ. We are part of the Body of Christ. Come join us.
