May Pop Culture and the Bible, Bible Study: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

Sunday May 17th 6:45pm

What Is: Pop Culture And The Bible, Bible Study?

It's an opportunity for Youth/Young Adults to practice putting their faith to work while looking at pop culture. We generally watch movies and then explore how Scripture intersects with what we've watched. This way of thinking about media can be applied to music, film, literature, television, art, and just about any other form of cultural production. We hope that the people coming to this would become wise consumers of media and be able to apply their Christian faith to whatever they are looking at.

This Month: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen is the fantastic tale of an 18th century aristocrat, his talented henchmen and a little girl in their efforts to save a town from defeat by the Turks. Being swallowed by a giant sea-monster, a trip to the moon, a dance with Venus and an escape from the Grim Reaper are only some of the improbable adventures. For the content advisory look here. There are a plie of really interesting things to think about in this film - one think we'll talk about is death and dying and what it means for the Christian. The Thursday evening youth/young adult Bible Study picked this movie after watching the clip below. BTW we are always looking for movie ideas. If you have one let Pastor Ted know maybe we could watch it some time soon!
We'll start at 7pm, come a bit early, like 6:45pmTo get you started think about this passage:
"For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you." (Exodus 12:23 ESV) Where it says "the destroyer" that's also often translated into English as being "The Angel of Death." The Angel of Death plays a part in this evenings movie.
